Are We Wrestling with God or Ourselves?

What does it mean to Wrestle with God?

Well, the word wrestle comes from the Hebrew word pathal which means “to struggle” or “be morally torturous”. So, to wrestle with God really means to struggle with Him, but why do we wrestle with God? For me, I feel that we aren’t really wrestling with God but wrestling with ourselves and the decisions we made in our past that come back and tell us that what God has planned for our lives is not possible.

We see in the Book of Genesis that Jacob struggles with all of the decisions he made when he was younger and finally accepts what he did and in the end, God blesses and rewards Jacob with a new name that will define the nation forever: Israel.

Genesis 32:25-26

25. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip, and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. 26. And He said, ‘Let Me go, for the day breaks’ But he said, “I will not let go until you bless me!”

Glorifying God in Body & Spirit – The Spirit (Part 2)

In Part 1, I talked about how we as people and Christians should glorify God with our bodies and not allow the world/society to dictate how we are supposed to dress or let the world/society diminish your value. Today though, we will be talking about the 2nd aspect of giving glorifying God; glorifying God in the Spirit.

Now, what does it mean to glorify God in the spirit? Well, the word Spirit comes from the Greek word “pneuma” meaning “to breathe” or “to blow.” So, here is the question: How do we give glorify God with in spirit? In the Bible, there are several key references that I feel give us an understanding of how we are supposed to glorify God in the spirit. In Galatians 5:16-18, Paul, is telling the people of Galatia that they are to walk in the Spirit and not succumb to the desires of the flesh.

Galatians 5:16-18

16. I say then: “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”Read More »

Adultery – The Sin of the Eyes and the Flesh

What is Adultery?

Well, in today’s society; people don’t use the word “adultery”, but use “cheating”. But God doesn’t see it that way, He sees “cheating” on your husband/wife as a violation of His covenant with humanity and a violation of the purpose of marriage. So, how does God describe adultery and how is it a sin against our bodies and God? In Matthew 5:28, Jesus describes what adultery is.

Matthew 5:28
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
