Holy Spirit, Teach Us!

This blog post was inspired by a comment from my previous post by Efua of Grace Over Pain. She said,

“Sometimes we read the Bible with a preconceived knowledge. Like we already know what the passage is about before we even read it. We become too familiar with scripture and over familiarity clogs our heart from understanding what the Holy Spirit is trying to teach us.

In this blog post, I will be discussing how the Holy Spirit teaches us and guides us through Scripture and how we can then apply it to our everyday lives. As we walk through this blog post, I want us as Christians to reflect on how the Holy Spirit has been teaching us.

As we go through this week; I would like us to ask ourselves this question: Are we allowing the Holy Spirit to teach us God’s Word? Are we letting God’s Spirit convict us? This leads me to read Proverbs 18:15 where the author speaks of the heart and how the discerning acquires knowledge and how the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

Proverbs 18:15

15. The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.”

“Whom Shall I Fear” – The Lord is Our Strength

What is Fear according to the Bible?

Well, as human beings; we are told that “fear is an illusion” or “fear is just our mind’s perception”, but as Christians, we know that fear is not of God, but of the enemy as said in 2 Timothy 1:7 which says, “7. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” with the so-called “Spirit of Fear” being Satan’s way of counteracting our trust and faith in Christ. Although we as human beings think that we can overcome fear with a man-made solution, there is no man-made solution to an internal struggle. The only way that we as people and Christians can conquer fear is by putting our trust in God first and letting His Word strengthen and encourage us to fight our fear.

1 John 4:18-19

18. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19. We love Him because He first loved us.”

Are You Listening to the Voice of Truth?

What is Truth?

How do we listen to the Voice of Truth? Well, when people hear the word Truth, some might mistake truth for a “little white lie”; while some might say that Truth is what we make of it. But both answers are incorrect, in the Bible; there is Truth. Jesus himself describes the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Truth and the source of truth; the one who will guide us towards the truth. In John 16:13; it gives us a clear indication as to what Truth is.

The Holy Spirit is the Voice of Truth.

John 16:13
“… when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth…”
